KEEPING THE SPIRIT OF JAZZ GUITAR ALIVE

Learning Format

Learning Format

Six jazz standards are set for each group varying from challenging for Group 1 not as challenging for Group 2. Group 3 have six jazz standards that every jazz guitarist should have in their repertoire and Group 4, which is for beginners in jazz, have the same tunes every year.

If possible, students should learn as many of the six standards as they are comfortable with - they should at least learn two (minimum requirement).

The focus is on as much playing time for students as possible, as many jazz guitar beginners have difficulty in finding anyone in their area to play with - the jazz guitar event allows them to interact with other musicians. If possible, students should learn the chords to all the standards in their group to allow them to interact with others in the group even though they won't necessarily be soloing or playing the melody.

Student jam sessions will be accompanied by TOM HILL (double bass) and ANDY BOLD (drums).

Music & Experience

Students are encouraged to prepare the melodies and chord progressions of the chosen standards in advance. Nobody is forced to play, but beginners are fully supported, while advanced players are pushed to expand their skills.

The weekend is designed to leave participants with more confidence, new friendships, and several new standards added to their repertoire. With a balance of structured learning and informal jams, the experience is as much about community as it is about musical growth.
